EPILEPSY.

Epilepsy is a chronic neurological disorder which is characterised  by recurrent (one or two)seizures. A seizure is a sudden rush of abnormal electrical activity in your brain(note a seizure is not a diagnosis is a symptom of other diseases like epilepsy).symptoms differ from person to person and according to the type of seizure e.i. parts of the brain involved. Types of seizure include:Focal seizures (partial seizure)occurs when abnormal electrical activity starts in one area of the brain. Approximately 61 percent of people with epilepsy have focal seizure. subtypes include:

-focal aware seizures (simple focal seizures)during this seizure you do not lose consciousness. Some symptoms include:unusual head  or eye movement,dilated pupils, tingling,tightened muscles, nausea, hallucinations ,sensation of crawling on the skin ,numbness,sweating, a sensation of déjà vu.

-focal impaired awareness seizure

Happens when your consciousness is partially or completely lost,some symptoms include: inability to respond, blank staring,appearance of daydreaming, screaming, crying or laughing, repeating words or phrases.

Generalized seizure.

-tonic clonic (grand mal seizure) some symptoms include:stiffening of the body ,lose of bladder or bowel control,bitting of the tongue, lose of consciousness.

-Absence seizure 

The tend to cause a short loss of consciousness,a blank stare .

-Tonic (Intense stiffening of the body)

-Clonic (Repetitive movements)

-Atonic(Loss of power at once)

-Myoclonic (Jerks)

Factors which can trigger seizures (Not causes but those factors associated with high chances of developing a seizure for already diagnosed epileptic

 patients)

Irregular taking of medication,menstration,missing meals,stress,flashing lights, high fever.

Treatment of epilepsy is of long-term nature ,some patient take medication their entire life. Like other diseases treatment adherence is very important.

In case pharmacological treatment is not effective ,alternative methods of treatment can be adopted such as Ketogenic diet ,vagos nerve stimulator and sigical treatment.
